I pulled an old laptop out which had a built-in modem and was able to
use Putty to dial in. ANSI doesn't look great in Putty but it worked!
TIL that Syncterm supports modems!
Right now I had the baud rate set to 9600, but I'll experiment with
trying to increase that & see what I can squeeze out of it.
I can get a stable connection at 31,200, so I've up'ed the baud rate to
38,400 for the modem. I'm typing this on an old laptop over dial-up.
Both lines are VoIP through voip.ms connected to my 2 port ATA. The ATA is using G711 uLaw with all echo cancellation turned off. SEXPOTS answers the call and then forwards it to telnet on the local machine.
So far I've noticed no line noise/artifacts on the screen & haven't had a dropped call so far. This seems to be very stable, I'm impressed (and
perhaps easily amused...)
