• Dial-up Test

From Warpslide@21:3/110.1 to All on Saturday, July 18, 2020 19:42:37
    Hi All,

I've been playing around with SEXPOTS and seem to have a working dial-up connection to Mystic.

I pulled an old laptop out which had a built-in modem and was able to use Putty to dial in. ANSI doesn't look great in Putty but it worked!

Does anyone have a modem & willing to try dialing in? The number is 1-289-424-5277 which apparently spells BUY-GAG-JARS.... *shrugs*

Right now I had the baud rate set to 9600, but I'll experiment with trying to increase that & see what I can squeeze out of it.

    TIL that Syncterm supports modems!

I can get a stable connection at 31,200, so I've up'ed the baud rate to
38,400 for the modem. I'm typing this on an old laptop over dial-up.

Both lines are VoIP through voip.ms connected to my 2 port ATA. The ATA is using G711 uLaw with all echo cancellation turned off. SEXPOTS answers the call and then forwards it to telnet on the local machine.

So far I've noticed no line noise/artifacts on the screen & haven't had a dropped call so far. This seems to be very stable, I'm impressed (and
    perhaps easily amused...)

    Cool! :)

I have to dig out one or two of my modems. :(

Good luck, hope it works. I am toying with setting up a modem myself. :)

Haha, rather appropriate for this post. ;)

Might have to drag out an old comms program. :)

Awesome, well done. Getting good speeds there too.

I'm happy for you. I suspected by using G.711, you could get decent bitrates, provided the underlying Internet connection is stable with low jitter and packet loss.

Got another one here to keep it company, might even have an AC supply to fire it up.

All of my modems and supplies should be together, wherever that is. :)
