I don't know how many auto racing fans there are here, but I was very
saddened earlier today to learn that 3-time Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby
Unser passed away yesterday. ;( He was always a character and could tell a
few stories when someone gave him a platform to do so.

I have always been a fan of the Unsers.

Sorry to hear. He was one of the good ones. I don't really follow

Dixon is probably the closest thing we have to a Foyt or Unser in the sport right now. A different personality, for sure, but very competitive and
very hard to beat. McLaughlin is, so far, having a phenomonal rookie season.
I think he will be something else, too, if he sticks with it.

McLaughlin has moved to IndyCar for this seasons. As far as IndyCar and Australians, there is currently at least one running full-time. Will Power
has won the series championship at least once, and won the Indy 500 in 2018.

I listen to old-time radio, and have read a lot of Ellery Queen novels.

It's always kind odd being sad about someone's death that happened before you were alive or when you were too young to care about the topic.

One of my projects a couple years ago was building an MP3 player into an old radio. I replace the dial with an eInk display but kept all the knobs.

If you select the old Police band, it will play old radio Dragnet episodes.

In my case, I mostly listen to a netcast by the name of, "The Great
Detectives of Old-Time Radio", which has detective shows like "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar".

Maybe people aren't aware of that one, but figure that lots of them are doing Sherlock Holmes sort of things, or something a little more like a police procedural.

But pretty much everything that was on the air from some point in the 1920s
    to the 1950s would qualify.

So detective shows like I listen to, yes, but also Superman, comedy shows, variety shows, and so on.

I tend to like them for what they don't cover. E.g., for the most part the shows aren't gritty and dark. Yes, sometimes they are, but it's the exception rather than the rule.

It tends to be good escapism, even though there are the occasional moments
that are... questionable, shall we say, such as when a man regretfully said that he probably should've beaten his wife.

There's a "little blue riding hood" out there by the same.. Stan Freberg only the colour has been changed to prevent an investigation.

My father had a raft of "comedy" on 78's for the most part neither my sister or I know where they ended up, most have better sounding recordings than I could even manage of the originals though.

Not sure who is the one that 'owns' this, but is this the same one that
was also a podcast? If so, I really enjoyed it!

I just sent a link to the Gunsmoke shows (over 400) to my pastor. He's a
big fan of the television show and I had told him about it being a radio
    show FIRST.
