I listen to old-time radio, and have read a lot of Ellery Queen novel
What is old-time radio? Just curious as to the format / content?
In my case, I mostly listen to a netcast by the name of, "The Great
Detectives of Old-Time Radio", which has detective shows like "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar".
Maybe people aren't aware of that one, but figure that lots of them are doing Sherlock Holmes sort of things, or something a little more like a police procedural.
But pretty much everything that was on the air from some point in the 1920s
to the 1950s would qualify.
So detective shows like I listen to, yes, but also Superman, comedy shows, variety shows, and so on.
I tend to like them for what they don't cover. E.g., for the most part the shows aren't gritty and dark. Yes, sometimes they are, but it's the exception rather than the rule.
It tends to be good escapism, even though there are the occasional moments
that are... questionable, shall we say, such as when a man regretfully said that he probably should've beaten his wife.
