Vic Country Champs. :)

Well, another big weekend is coming up. It's the Australia Day weekend, though some would call it "Invasion Day" (with good reason). Anyway, for me that means it's time for the Victorian Country Athletics Championships. This is a 3 day meet, starting on Saturday and finishing Monday. My club is attempting to complete a hat trick of wins, having won the championships the last 2 years in a row. Seems one of our secret weapons is our unusually large contingent og over 40s (nowadays almost all over 50s) men, which means we're well represented in age groups where other clubs have relatively few people.
In addition, we have a lot of talent in our ranks. I'm the #2 ranked sprinter in the club in this age group, and not far behind that mark in the overall fields for the weekend, and combined. In the relays, we have 3 of us in our early 50s, who can combine with one of the older guys (our coach actually) to create a potentially record breaking team in the over 50s. We have actually broken the local 50+ 4x400m relay record (by 20 seconds!), and are capanble of breaking the 4x100m record on paper, just have to do it in reality. :)
Of course, being a 3 day meet means there is a "war of attrition" in my age group - who can survive the full meet? Fortunately, my fire brigade training on top of normal track work is heavily in my favour, providing my recently healed calf is up to a couple of hurdles events.
Anyway, I'm headed down to Geelong, where the championships are being held tomorrow. Its about a 2.5 hour drive, and I need to be at the track before 9AM Saturday to sign in for a 10AM event (long jump). Should be a fun weekend. Anyway, for those interested, my events are:
Saturday
Long jump
400m hurdles
Hammer throw
Sunday
100m
Triple jump
400m
4x100m relay
Monday
100m hurdles
200m
4x400m relay
:)
... I find circuses a little too sinister.
