;) I'm not sure why people use slack. There are also many open source alternatives:
I work for a 12,000+ person tech company, we all use Slack. I've gone
from the bad old days of 1 email inbox with 100 messages per day to 70 Slack channels with a 50 messages a day.
So I now have 70 inboxes.
But on the bright side, hardly any emails :)

My selling point? You think you're getting a lot of email now? You will get the same amount - but you get to delete them, because all of the information is captured in the system. You could turn all the emails
off and just use the system if you want.
Slack is handy for remote teams, but I feel the same way - like I
traded one inbox (which I was good at managing workflow through) for
ten.
