;) I'm not sure why people use slack. There are also many open source alternatives:

I work for a 12,000+ person tech company, we all use Slack. I've gone
from the bad old days of 1 email inbox with 100 messages per day to 70 Slack channels with a 50 messages a day.

So I now have 70 inboxes.

But on the bright side, hardly any emails :)

    LOL

I once worked for a company that did all workflow through email. Picture an ecommerce company with a webstore, fulfillment site and call center in different cities. Shipping and inventory updates went from the fulfillment site to the call center and the web store, the web store sent product and
SKU information to the call center, and the call center sent shipping inquiries from customers to the fulfillment center - all done with distribution lists.

I implemented a helpdesk system that we used as a workflow tool, captured
all of the tasks, requesters, implementers, stakeholders and SLAs, built the workflows into the system and let them loose.

My selling point? You think you're getting a lot of email now? You will get the same amount - but you get to delete them, because all of the information is captured in the system. You could turn all the emails off and just use
    the system if you want.

Slack is handy for remote teams, but I feel the same way - like I traded one inbox (which I was good at managing workflow through) for ten.

:-) I understand, and if I were using it for business I might feel otherwise, but it works for the gaming stuff I'm doing. :-)
