    Hi all.

I wanted to post a quick update on James Coyle aka g00r00 the author of
    Mystic BBS.

I've been in touch with g00r00 over recent days and can confirm that he's
alive and kicking and has not dropped off the face of the planet. He has definitely not lost interest in doing further development work on Mystic.

Work and family life have simply been keeping him very busy. At present he advises that he just does not have the capacity to pump out the alphas at the pace we were experiencing from him pre August 2016. I must confess I was surprised he was able to sustain the kind of output he did at that time.

I do get the firm impression from g00r0 that we can expect further updates over the coming months ahead, but as his time/avails permits.

For now I have passed along a request for him to have a look at a suspected
bug regarding the way MUTIL and QWKPOLL handle the time stamps of messages being tossed / sent to nodes. This is one I know some folks here as well
as others across Othernets are keen to see some investigation on.

I'll keep you posted on further progress and any other planned
releases / developments in the week ahead. :)

    Best, Paul.

    Whoohoo, good news indeed!

That would be "most excellent" <sorry, cannot find my air guitar...>! I've
been having some QWK issues where created packets would be subtly corrupt in some way, enough to make MultiMail hang. I found that if I restart Mystic,
log in again and do a message date rescan, things would normally work thereafter. So in general I think that the QWK subsystem can do with some
    love.

    [time passes]

    Hi all.

I have heard from g00r00 recently and (as you will see by the signature in
this message) he has been active again recently.

Both fsxNet HUBs and Agency have been updated with a test version of 1.12 A32 that at this stage seeks to address the following:

    [snip]

! Fixed a problem in QWK packets that could cause packet corruption when
processing messages greater than 64kb. Thanks to William McBrine for
    the report and the fix!

! When processing echomail PKT files, Mystic was not properly reading in
the seconds from the message post date/time, if it was supplied by the
sending mailer. Please note that in some cases, this could invalidate
current duplicate message databases, but this will of course correct
    itself over time.

For clarification: QWK and QWKE do not have message seconds so there is
no similar issue on the QWK side.

    [snip]

The version I am testing is a work in progress so the final A32 may look different or we may jump to an A33 it's really up to the author. The test version is (as far as I know) about getting a few fixes sorted so don't get
any hopes up at this stage that there will be a ton of new features etc.
That's not what this update will be about as far as I am aware.

I'll keep you posted on progress and will likely approach 2-3 nodes for help to do further tests but the numbers will be small and the aim really being to quickly turn around any obvious bug reports back to g00r00 in the hope we can get this version out widely ASAP.

There is no set ETA for the full release of A32 at this stage, that will be
    up to g00r00

More to follow as it comes to hand.

    Best, Paul

Hmmm, I tried a reply and it doesn't seem to have worked. I don't know why.
I replied to the last message and it didn't seem to show up before I logged off - which maybe normal, it's been a while since I used rep packets. It uploaded fine as far as I could tell. I'll try it again and put at least
two messages in it so we can see if it duplicates the MSGID.

Yup, he's back and that A32 does fix the size problem that existed. I have
A31 and it has the problem, tested it here and Agency doesn't have the
problem with its A32. This message will be uploaded with another reply I just did so we can see if the MSGID duplication is still there. Check the two replies with ^V and look for their MSGIDs. Then we'll know for sure ;)

The dumbass scum who have sent him death threats should just decide to make

Is your existence so pathetic that sending death threats to someone who has spent over 25 years working on and releasing bbs software so that we can

how to fucking turn a computer on and require watching a YouTube video in

I was contacted by James yesterday asking if I would stop saying whatever it was I was saying about him as according to him he was being constantly threatened and harassed by some from fsxNet.

I replied I was sorry he was getting such emails. That I didn't condone or
ask for any such action against him. I offered to post something to request
any vitriol cease as it was totally out of line and talked about how
I had mentioned kindness to all and himself in my public post.

The reply I got back (among other things) was along the lines of please don't do anything, let it go. So out of respect I did. Until Frank raised it here on the back of I can only assume email exchanges he and James have been sharing.

So now that the matter has been aired by Frank I'd like to ask people who may be opting to contact g00r00 with their thoughts and feelings re his current departure from fsxNet (the third or fourth time now... I forget) please be civil with your communication. I do not condone emailed threats or abuse being sent to him or anyone for that fact. This should not be a surprise to those
    of you who know me.

I've seen one email shared to me by g00r00 which is clearly well out of order but that's all I have seen.

I am confident the vast majority of people who are active in fsxNet (indeed I think the same really holds true for any online community) are good sorts who while they may grump at times and laugh with others at other times, all know where the line of decency is and abide by it. And to that you have my thanks.

It disgusts me that after g00r00 decided to leave fsxNet he
has received numerous emails with death threats and abusive
    comments.

WTF? Why? Is there some sort of policy where we can't doxx these people? This is a private community after all.

I don't know what doxx means, but death threats and abuse is not at all welcome, and such behavior isn't tolerable.

I'm a little stunned by Netsurge's post. I didn't think we had people
that immature here (the death threat people not Netsurge).

But then telling people to commit suicide isn't exactly mature either.

I think everyone needs to calm down.

    Andrew

nah, someone with the gumption to 'doxx', which is outting someones personal information to the world or taking their bandwidth, deserves what frank had
    the balls to state. sheesh.

So you think I should jump out a window or walk into traffic, because I suggested we should know who on our network is sending death threats to
    people?

I consider g00r00 a friend and no matter what g00r00 may have said or what Avon might have said or what the truth really is, this is a fucking hobby. ....
how to fucking turn a computer on and require watching a YouTube video in order to setup a BBS? Give your fucking head a shake bud.
This is a sad day for this hobby.

There is no need for more drama... accusing each other, insulting each other, trying to figure who this guy is etc. g00r00 has to contact the authorities, the cyber-crime division, send them the emails and the whole thing go to justice. Nothing more, nothing less.

Also, personally i don't like intermediates. I am not accusing you or g00r00
of anything. I simply say, that if g00r00 has such a problem he owns to make
an announcement of this and that he is taking action. No need to let others read his email and speak behalf of him. This complicates things more than making it clear and it doesn't lead anywhere. Making it so, is like living
bits of accusations to FSX as a whole, instead of accusing the specific man
who made the threats. I hope i am not misunderstood.

A very disappointing day for BBSing indeed. :(

Yep this is what happens when someone posts *hugely dishonest* messages like Avon did. The irony is that he talks about being nice at the end of a message when it was literally crafted with the intent to attack me (inciting his little circle of people to threaten and harass me) lol!

Its not hard to see why I left a network with people who act like that.

Like I said before, anyone who gets that upset when someone else they don't know decides to not read a FidoNet BBS network really needs to take a step back and take a long deep look at themselves instead of trying to point fingers at someone else.

    Good riddance.

James, the irony of what you're doing by posting this misinformation is not lost on me. I have not posted anything publicly in fsxNet that is untruthful with respect to your recent departure and the way I felt about it.

Despite reaching out to you via netmail and a follow-up email my attempts to seek clarity as to why I was removed from the Wiki without any notice or what you meant by your last netmail message to me went unanswered.
