The ftp is a minimal version custom to Mystic, don't expect it to wor with much (like filezilla or most clients). It can work using the Mys login name and password.
No, it should work with all FTP clients. What problem are you having?
I have had problems in the past, but it could have been resources on the
older Pi setups. I have used it recently and had no problems with A33-A35 and did use filezilla for something in the past few days. That was on an x86 x64 based system so no resource issues. Hopefully no one is trying to use it with
a Pi A anymore or even an early Pi 1 B, 2 B+ up is likely OK (512M RAM). I
did start with an early 1 B (3) but have moved on, 2 B+ is now the low end of what I have. A timeout may have been a problem as well, or a drop which could be from the network itself, I never really consider WiFi as reliable - it
still drops or gets inference. That caused a Ghost in the last week, but I
see no way around that as it was in a DD external program - I let it last to see, was like 17 hours before I killed it. Being external there is little way
I can see for mystic to do anything about that, but I did kill the Ghost
before looking in to killing the task that was holding it (Linux).
