Avatar 2 filming starts this week!
      ----------------------------------
Patient Avatar fans have a reason to celebrate this week,
as Avatar 2 filming is officially starting! While
pre-production has been going on for some time, the
actual filming and motion capture with the actors will
      now go full speed ahead.

20th Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment announced
release dates for the four Avatar sequels back in April.
Avatar 2 will be coming to theaters on December 18, 2020,
and will be followed by the third film on December 17,
2021. Then there will be a three-year break in releases,
as the fourth film opens on December 20, 2024, and the
fifth Avatar movie is scheduled for a December 19, 2025
      release.

Good news! ...for followers of latest, greatest CGI, anyway.

Um...shouldn't it be great news for followers of latest, greatest 3D,
anyway? The AVATAR sequels may be the last hope for that dying (again)
    art form.

The steady-state for 3D movies might be that the box-office boost that post-conversion affords to the occasional Imax-ish action flick (e.g., GEOSTORM) is sustainable. Meanwhile, when I posted the above, I was
thinking that AVATAR's CGI, rather than its 3D, would break new
technological ground. However, now I read this:
